The Santa Maria Water District, in coordination with New World Diagnostics, Inc. (NWDi), conducted its 2024 Annual Medical and Physical Examination (AMPE) on October 23, 2024. The conduct of AMPE is part of the SMWD Human Resource Section’s Health and Wellness Initiative in support and approval of the SMWD Top Management in the lead of the General Manager, Engr. Carlos N. Santos, Jr.
The AMPE had been a regular practice for SMWD before being discontinued during the pandemic. This year, it was reinstated with the aim of providing convenient healthcare to employees by bringing the services through a mobile medical van. In 2020, the last AMPE was quite a hassle for SMWD employees, as they had to travel to the nearest clinic of the partner agency for the conduct of their laboratory and physical tests. Consequently, this year offered a completely different scenario where employees enjoyed the comfort and convenience of having the AMPE conducted for one day at the SMWD office only.
A total of 130 employees were entitled for AMPE, while 117 employees were able to participate on the one-day examination done by the NWDi. The other employees unable to attend will be given a separate schedule. The employees underwent the following laboratory tests and physical examinations:
- Complete Urinalysis
- Complete Blood Count
- Blood Typing
- Fasting Blood Sugar
- Blood Uric Acid
- Liver Enzymes (SGPT and SGOT)
- Kidney Function Test (Blood Urea Nitrogen & Creatinine)
- Lipid Profile (Cholesterol, Triglycerides, HDL, LDL)
- Physical Examination
- Dental Examination
- Visual Acuity
- Chest X-Ray – Plain, Posterior-Anterior (PA) view
- 12-Lead Electrocardiogram (ECG)
With this initiative, the Human Resource Section aims to assess employees’ health to determine their capabilities in performing their jobs. Hence, this evaluation will also help identify any recommendations that can be made regarding their roles and responsibilities at work.
This initiative will continue next year in pursuant to Executive Order No. 64, s. 2024, signed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., providing an annual medical allowance of up to Php 7,000 to government employees.
In conclusion, the 2024 Annual Medical and Physical Examination was a great success and underlines SMWD’s commitment to the health and well-being of its employees. Additionally, this also ensures that employees receive the necessary support to enhance their overall performance and job satisfaction.
