Water Sources

The Santa Maria Water District derives its water supply from the groundwater through twenty-three (23) production wells located in various site within the WD service area. Water from these deep-wells is pumped to the distribution system. SMWD has eleven (11) reservoirs with a combined capacity of 4,648 cu. m. or 1,227,872 gallons (concrete tank (Gulod: 272 cu. m.); overhead tank (Sta. Clara: 111 cu. m.; Garden Village: 200 cu. m.; Glendale: 90 cu. m.; Sonoma: 200 cu. m.; San Vicente: 200 cu. m.; Caysio: 75 cu.m.); glass-fused-steel-bolted tank (Guyong: 1000 cu. m.; San Jose Patag: 1000 cu. m.; Manggahan: 1000 cu. m.; and Sta. Cruz: 500 cu. m.). The total existing distribution pipelines for the year 2024 are at 259,607.01 LM and the combined production capacity of these operational production wells is about 320.85 lps (27,721.44 cum/day). During dry season, the yield of almost all of the wells declines by about 10% to 15% of their usual yield capacities.

The twenty-three (23) production wells, and their average discharge capacity and corresponding motor are the following:

SMWD derives additional water supply from surface water through bulk water suppliers, i.e., Philippine Hydro, Inc. (in 2010) and Luzon Clean Water Development Corporation (in 2019).

For Philippine Hydro, Inc., or Phil Hydro, the three (3) tapping points are located near the borders of Norzagaray, Bulacan, namely, Partida T.P., Perez T.P., and Tigbe T.P., and the two (2) tapping points are located along the I.N.C. line at Brgy. Bagbaguin and Brgy. Sto. Tomas, Sta. Maria, Bulacan. The Santa Maria Water District’s pipelines on those five (5) tapping points can accommodate up to 370 lps (32,000 cu.m./day). The raw water is sourced from the Angat River and treated at the Phil Hydro Company’s Norzagaray treatment facility.

For Luzon Clean Water Development Corporation, or LCWDC, a consortium of San Miguel Holdings and K-Water Resources Corporation, the sole tapping point is located at the boundary of San Jose Del Monte City and Santa Maria-San Vicente. This tapping point can accommodate up to 463 lps (40,000 cu.m./day). The raw water supply comes from Aqueduct No. 6, going to La Mesa Dam. The total existing distribution pipelines is at 259,607.01 linear meters. The breakdown in various sizes and types of materials are as follows (as of December 31, 2024):
