The month of October is the International Breast Cancer Awareness Month! The Santa Maria Water District joins this campaign to raise awareness of breast cancer, including its early detection, access to care facilities, and the need for research to improve treatment.

As part of the activities, we begin by promoting the campaign through posting it on our website and displaying tarpaulins on the main lobby and SMWD Entrances.

To further support this activity, we launch a “Pink Friday”, where all employees are encouraged to wear pink, either shirt or accessories, every Friday throughout October. The color pink, symbolized by a pink ribbon represents hope and solidarity for many who have been impacted by breast cancer. To add a bit of excitement, each week, we recognize the Pink Outfit of the day for both male and female from employees participate.

To spread awareness among our concessionaires, informative leaflets were distributed to some who pay their bills during the third week of October. These materials contained information about the breast cancer, its symptoms and prevention. This initiative aims to raise awareness about the disease.

There are also informative videos and materials posted in the SMWD employees’ messenger Group Chat regarding the breast cancer information. This aims to educate the employees on the importance of the early detection and prevention of breast cancer. Additionally, an interactive online trivia questions are posted every Friday related to these materials, helping to gauge employee awareness and engagement with the information.

These activities aim not only to raise awareness about the breast cancer but also to deepen knowledge about it and encourage early detection. By doing so, we hope to increase the survival rate and make a meaningful impact, particularly in addressing one of the most common cancers specially among women.
